My advice to the devil

My advice to the devilPretend you’re Lucifer, meaning “light bringer” in Hebrew… formerly of the “heavenly host” (Judges 5:20; Daniel 8:10; Jude 1:3; Revelation 1:20)… a cherub (Ezekiel 28:14, 16) …perhaps an angel (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 12:9; Job 1:6, 2:1; 2 Corinthians 11:14; 2 Peter 2:4).

You were created perfect, but your desire (James 1:14-15; Genesis 3:6) made possible the birth of sinful pride within you (Ezekiel 28:15-17). So you rebelled against your Creator God, wanting to set yourself up to be worshiped above Him (Isaiah 14:13-14).

That got you thrown out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12; Ezekiel 28:15-17; Daniel 8:10).

Now you’re know as “Satan,” another Hebrew word meaning “enemy.”

You’ll never be worshiped like God, but you crave it nonetheless. You’re pretty bitter about your big breakup with the Boss (Revelation 12:12), and you have nothing to look forward to but an imminent eternal death sentence (Matthew 25:41; 2 Peter 2:4; Revelation 20:10).

If I were you (and I’m glad I’m not) I’d do something about it. Continue reading

10 Personality flaws that make missionaries wildly successful

The Stupidest Man EverFor all their warts missionaries embody the abundant that most of us only read about. And if you think that ship has sailed for you, take heart. Most missionaries miss the boat too.

People will devour any “10 Traits” or “7 Habits” that lead to a life less ordinary. But since “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, [and] what is weak in the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27) here’s how God saves fantastically flawed people from being total flops. Don’t make the same mistake as the stupidest man ever

Stupidest man everScripture calls Christians “children of God,” “sons of God,” “heirs of God,” “heirs through God,” “heirs with Christ,” “heirs of the promise,” “heirs of the grace of life,” and “heirs of the kingdom.”

God’s heirs will “inherit the promises,” “inherit the blessing,” “inherit the kingdom,” “inherit the earth,” “inherit salvation,” and “inherit eternal life.”

Be honest. Has knowing this made your life any better?

There’s a fatal flaw that demolishes everything.

5 Steps to align your actual life with your real desires

targetThere are very few of life’s questions that can’t be answered by following Jesus’ most simple advice. Especially the one thing everybody wants to know: How to “have life and have it abundantly.” (Jno 10:10)

What does that mean? Do you think you already have it? How can it become reality for you?

Simple.

Jesus said, “Come unto Me.” (Matt 11:28)

Here’s how to respond, and what happens when you do. Continue reading

12 Simple attributes of world-changing people

moon-walk-60616_640If you could map out the “character DNA” or the formula for cloning an army of high achievers, what would it look like?

Or what if you just wanted to know what to look for in an employer or an employee? What about a spouse or a group of friends? Ok, maybe you just want to keep your own life from being absolutely meaningless. What should you look for?

Turns out that this formula is pretty simple. You probably already possess or can develop most of these attributes. And they can empower you to help change the world. Seriously!

It took me 39 years to figure out this formula. Here, I’ll save you the time. Continue reading

Why slavery works

pyramidsThis just says it all. It’s the opening paragraph to an article I read on LinkedIn about embracing the 4-day workweek:

TGIF is a common saying for burned out employees dreaming of the weekend. Even in the best companies, your workers always have the weekends in mind. Like a mirage in the desert, employees are going about their 9-to-5 while dreaming of those precious two days of freedom.

Bridging the gap through today’s fog to tomorrow’s dreams

fog-267978_1920 It’s not a “10 Steps” gimmick. This works for everyone. No exceptions. And it’s the easiest thing ever.

Human beings long for meaning and purpose. Many of us spend our lives searching for it. Maybe you’ve already found it. Others seem sure of God’s purpose for them. Maybe things are good but not great. Is there more? you wonder.

Whether you’re crystal clear about these things or lost in a fog, there’s a way to be certain you get everything you were wired to want in life.

I can relate to Adolph Hilter

I can relate to Adolf HitlerWhat does justice look like to you?

Between 1941 and 1945 Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, communists, homosexuals, the mentally and physically disabled and members of other groups were targeted and methodically murdered in the largest genocide of the 20th century. In total approximately 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust including over 1 million children. Of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe before the Holocaust, approximately two-thirds were killed. –Wikipedia

I’m a good guy. Trouble is I find myself relating more to Adolph Hitler than to God.

Is George Orwell’s 1984 too optimistic?

This isn’t the first article I’ve posted that’s made up entirely of someone else ideas. Some people might not appreciate my philosophy on originality (which I appropriately procured from someone else). Most of the content of this post comes from George Orwell’s 1984. I’m not in the habit of letting other people ghostwrite my blog but hey, it is my blog, and I like to post things that impact my life and help me learn. Maybe you can pick up a little something too. If you’ve ever read George Orwell’s 1984, you should. If you decide not to, that’s ok. But you at least better read this excerpt. Your future, and even your life, depends on your understanding it. I wish I had written this

michelangeloThis is an excerpt from a sermon by David Platt called The Sufficiency of Christ. It is part of a series called Threads. When I heard this I was so impressed and excited by the way God inspired David to make such a loving plea for faith in Him. I just had to transcribe it and post it here. I plan to commit this to memory so I can articulate it those who believe that there is no God, or that there there is more than one way to God. This is beautiful. Continue reading
